Eligibility criteria of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and how to apply for it?

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or PMAY, also known as housing for all scheme, is an initiative by the government of India to provide affordable housing to urban poor. The mission is to provide houses for all by the year 2022. Let check out the eligibility criteria of this Yojana and how to apply for it.


Eligibility Criteria of PMAY

The government of India will use ‘The Socio Economic and Caste Census of 2011’ to select the list of the people who all can apply for houses under this scheme. This is done to avoid fraudulent as well as to ensure that only people who need the house can apply for it. The eligibility criteria are as follows:

· Indian citizens who are women can apply. There are extra benefits for women applicants.
· You cannot avail the benefits of PMAY if the house is already constructed. People will be allowed to buy or construct new houses only.
· Those who belong to the Low Income Group or LIG and Economically Weaker Section or EWS can apply for houses under this Pradhan Mantri Housing Scheme.  
· People who belong to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are also eligible.
· Senior citizens and differently abled people will be given priorities like house on the ground floor for their convenience.
· There should be no pre-existing “pucca” house in the name of any family member of the family in any part of the country. If one meets this criterion, only then he/she is eligible to apply under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
· Any household with the total annual income between 6 lakhs to 18 lakhs can apply under this scheme. The applicant is also allowed to include the income of the spouse while applying for PMAY.

How to Apply?

· Once it is clear you are eligible to apply, you can visit the official website.
· Find “Citizen Assessment” Option under the “Menu” section, and then provide you Aadhaar Number, followed by your personal details.
· Once you enter all the information, click on “I am aware of” option, and click the “Save” button.
· Once you click the “Save” button, you will get the system generated application number that you need to save for future reference.
· Download the print and submit it to the CSC office centers and banks along with the required documents.
